Why Equip Believers?

"Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves."

Luke 10: 1-4

After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place He was about to visit. And He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest."

Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse or bag or sandals. Do not greet anyone along the road.

Jesus knows exactly what will happen when we begin talking to others about Him. We alert the wolves (evil spirits) and they will attack. We need to be well prepared with the full armour of God to be able to resist these attacks and carry out our work in building the Kingdom.

Anyone involved in sport understands that you must have a terrific defence from which to attack, and Paul the apostle outlines this in Ephesians 6: 10-20. He gives us 5 defensive stances, and only one attacking stance. He understands that any weakness in our defence will be exploited and we can be distracted, delayed, and possibly disillusioned to the point of not trying any more.

We have identified four progressive stages of evangelism. While there are numerous ways to evangelise, there are scriptural teachings and human traits that allow for a map of progressive stages. The following stages of evangelism work, and the first two stages are all about prayer and preparation. The principles of each stage can apply to any form of evangelism.
